Virgin Voyages launches fast Starlink-powered Wi-Fi

The cruise line is partnering with solutions provider SES, a global leader in satellite communications. Due to the partnership, Virgin Voyages is the first cruise line to offer this integrated service. Basically, this combines Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite coverage to offer the fastest Internet speeds ever at sea.

The Starlink-powered Wi-Fi service promises connectivity speeds of up to 1.5Gbps per cruise ship. Moreover, it has no limits on data consumption, which sets a new standard for marine Internet capabilities. Meanwhile, the groundbreaking connection allows guests (dubbed “sailors” by the cruise line) to enjoy a wide range of digital experiences while onboard.

Other benefits of the connectivity

Besides passenger convenience, the new connectivity will also enhance operational efficiency. This new solution will also power Virgin Voyages’ tech-savvy cabins, suites, spas and entertainment offerings. Each of these requires a superior Internet connection to function well.

However, naturally, the new, fast Wi-Fi connection is valuable for Virgin Voyages’ adults-only cruises, offering unlimited Wi-Fi on multiple devices. Guests will be able to keep up with their messaging, and emails and attend video calls while sharing on social media in real-time.
