These days, there is much talk of travelers’ carbon footprint as they explore the world, but one hotel is doing something about this. Populus is the first carbon-positive hotel in the US and is ready for booking.

Enjoy a stay at Populus – America’s first carbon-positive hotel

Set to open later this summer, Populus is a hotel in downtown Denver, steps away from the Colorado State Capital. Its modern design is attractive and eye-catching, and the hotel will have two restaurants, a rooftop bar, lounge and coffee bar, as well as flexible event spaces. Populus is managed by Aparium Hotel Group and was developed by Urban Villages. It also features 265 comfortable guest rooms, just waiting for someone to stay over.

However, what makes this new hotel different is that it is officially the first, carbon-positive hotel in the United States. Basically, to achieve carbon positivity, Populus plans to offset its operational carbon footprint with agricultural collaborations and reforestation efforts. By doing so, the hotel will sequester more carbon than it emits during its entire life cycle.

During the construction of the hotel, crews used sustainable design and construction techniques in order to offset the carbon emitted during the building process. This includes emissions from maintenance, transportation and disposal of materials.

Partnering with One Tree Planted

Before the hotel is even open, Populus has already partnered with One Tree Planted. Through this partnership, the hotel will plant over 70,000 trees in Gunnison County in southwest-central Colorado. Moreover, these efforts also support biodiversity in the La Garita Wilderness. These efforts will reintroduce the Engelmann spruce, a type of tree affected by beetles.

The meaning of the hotel’s name is apt, as according to Wikipedia, “Populus is a genus of 25 to 30 species of deciduous flowering plants in the family Salicaceae, native to most of the Northern Hemisphere.”

‘Destination for today’s modern traveler’

Populus is destined to become a must-visit destination for today’s modern traveler, a place that Denver residents are proud to have in their backyard and a landmark that redefines the future of sustainable travel with a commitment to superior service and an elevated guest experience.

With dynamic amenities and a distinct reverence for nature, the hotel will foster connections between guests, the city and the environment.
