The Perfect Four Day Lake Tahoe Vacation

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful area of our country that I think everyone should visit at least once. Read on for my take on the perfect four days Lake Tahoe vacation…

If you don’t live in California, I don’t suggest you plan a Lake Tahoe vacation for any less than four days. There is so much to see and do, you don’t want to short change yourself. And you want to allow for travel time too, especially if you don’t live on the west coast of the United States. You could certainly go for longer and still find plenty to fill up your vacay, but if you have less than a week to work with, 4 days in Lake Tahoe will do you right!

In fact, I’m sharing some of my favorite things to do in Lake Tahoe to help fill your four-day travel itinerary. If you love the great outdoors, but also gravitate to a leisurely way of vacationing, my perfect four days Lake Tahoe vacation is for you! You’ll take in plenty of sights, shop to your heart’s content and enjoy lots of eating and drinking too. If those aren’t the cornerstones of a quality vacation, I don’t know what is!

Now you’ll find plenty of people who’ve only visited South Lake Tahoe. It’s where most of the action is. It’s incredibly tourist-heavy and where the casinos are located. You won’t find suggestions for that area here. I prefer the more low-key North Lake Tahoe and West Lake Tahoe regions. You still get breathtaking mountain and lake views minus the overwhelming crowds. That’s not to say you’ll totally leave the crowds behind. Depending on what time of year you go, the whole of Lake Tahoe is pretty darn popular, but South Lake Tahoe is more fast-paced.

2 Days in North Lake Tahoe

First, I suggest you head to Squaw Valley in North Lake Tahoe. It is simply gorgeous. Even in the summer, it’s a must-visit situation. Plus, the beyond the charming town of Truckee is right down the road. I highly recommend you spend one day exploring the mountain and one-day shopping and eating in Truckee. Fine dining and diners co-exist with high-end boutiques and rustic wares in Truckee. It’s the best of both worlds!

When in Squaw Valley, take the aerial tram all the way up to High Camp. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget. Plus, once you’re on top, you’ll find 360-degree alpine views, a mountaintop heated pool, hiking opportunities and, of course, snow sports. Even in June, you’ll find skiers and snowboarders hitting the mountain! Personally, I prefer to enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate at the bar and watch them. Haha!

2 Days in West Lake Tahoe

For your next two days in Lake Tahoe, my recommendation is the West Shore. Spend a day in Tahoe City and a day in the surrounding areas. Lake life has never seemed more appealing than in West Lake Tahoe. Explore the kitschy tourist spots in the town center and the public beach right across the street. Rent a boat, kayak, whatever strikes your fancy. Simply walking along the lake is entertaining all on its own. And If you stay in Tahoe City, you’re just a short drive away from Emerald Bay and the best place to see it, Inspiration Point. You’ve never seen a view like this. Trust me!

Well, I hope I’ve sold you on visiting Lake Tahoe sooner rather than later. And if you take away anything from this post, start your day with coffee and a biscotti at Tahoe House. If you can’t indulge in cookies for breakfast on vacation, when can you? Haha! Happy vacation planning! I can’t wait to hear what you thought of this perfect four day Lake Tahoe vacation.
