Longest Mountain Bike Trail For Beginners Now Open In The UK
This new beginner’s course in Wales is perfect for the whole family, while getting out and about on two wheels together.
A new beginners mountain biking trail in Wales is perfect for anyone who wants to try their hand at mountain biking. It is perfect for beginners, but also for families. Even better, it has just been deemed the UK’s longest biking trail. BikePark Wales has a fun downhill route, known as the Kermit trail, which runs for 5 km (3 mi). The trail was designed and built by riders, for riders.
BikePark Wales in Brecon Beacons
BikePark Wales is nestled in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons and offers a network of 40 criss-crossing routes, suitable for all abilities. The routes include runs with roller coaster sections, bermed corners, tree-lined runs and rock slabs, all through the forested hillsides. The new routes have been developed, and are maintained, by professional trail builders.
Martin Astley, founder and director of BikePark Wales, said that at 5 km (3 mi) long, the Kermit trail gives an awesome introduction to downhill mountain biking in a truly beautiful location. Astley said there is nothing like it anywhere else in the UK, adding that it is a unique way for beginners and families to enjoy their first experience of this fun sport in a controlled and safe manner.
Kermit Trail To Open In Spring
The new Kermit trail is set to open in spring, as it was delayed by several months due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to Astley, it may have been a long time coming, but they are excited to be able to finally share this stunning new trail with riders.
BikePark Wales describes itself as a ski resort without the snow, replacing the pistes with bike trails meandering down to the bottom of the mountain. The park has the longest green- and blue-graded descents in the UK and is ideal for beginner and intermediate riders.
The park has a fleet of mini buses for uplift purposes, transporting riders quickly and comfortably to the top of the Myndd Gethin Mountain. Riders then select their route and head down the trails to the bottom, before catching a lift to the top again for another go.
The on-site Woodland Café is available for locally sourced food items and drinks during visitors’ time at BikePark Wales.

COVID-19 And Its Effect On Bikepark Wales
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, outdoor adventure is the way to go when seeking social distancing and healthy exercise. BikePark Wales has this and more. The bike park offers only 24 slots each day, in order to comply with social distancing guidelines.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Wales has mandated that indoor entertainment venues should close. It is expected that more restrictions will be announced in the coming week, during the run up to Christmas.
Wales emerged in early November from a strict “firebreak” lockdown. During the lockdown people were banned from meeting anyone from outside of their household. On top of this, all non-essential businesses were closed.
