Verizon JetPack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot by NETGEAR Keeps Me Connected When Traveling

netgear-ambassador-badgem a NETGEAR Ambassador and I received this product in exchange for my honest review.  The opinions in this post are 100% mine.

When you travel as often as my husband and I do – having your own personal hotspot for WIFI use is a necessity. Sure, there is always public WIFI available at most airports and motels, and random corner coffee shops, but nothing is as reliable and safe as having your own hotspot for internet use. I can’t tell you how many time I was five minutes away from meeting my deadline, and then booted off public WIFI because there were so many others using it at the same time. And, there is always safety issues you have to take in to consideration when using public WIFI, anyone else on the network can hack in to your computer and personal files.

24 Hours of Connection

I have had a few different WIFI hotspots over the course of the past year, but I recently switched over to Verizon JetPack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot – AC791L by NETGEAR, and I immediately fell in love with it. I don’t see myself switching to any other device any time soon. The whole point of a mobile hotspot, is that you are MOBILE, as in “on the go.” So, it pretty much defeats the purpose when you have to stop and keep charging your hotspot. The new Verizon Jetpack has the longest battery life I have found on a mobile hotspot thus far! When I heard that the Jetpack’s batteries lasted up to 24 hours, I knew I had to try it for myself. That selling point alone was why I switched over to the newest NETGEAR model, and I was not disappointed.

On my most recent trip my Jetpack’s battery actually outlasted my laptop’s battery and my cell-phone’s battery! Obviously when you are on the go, travelling, and have flights to catch or buses to take – there is nothing more annoying than having to stop and find a wall to plug your smartphone charger in to. Luckily, my new Verizon Jetpack Mobile Hotspot can actually charge my smartphone. I was able to charge my phone with my hotspot, while it was in my purse and I was rushing through the airport to catch my flight!

Wifi VS. Hotspots

Another reason travelers (myself included) are switching from public WIFI to hotspots is because there is nothing more frustrating than waiting 15 minutes for your email to load because there are way more users on the network than it is built to handle. The Verizon JetPack is 4G LTE Advanced (where applicable), which means that it is actually up to 10 times faster than 3G networks. Seriously, when I am on my hotspot – the internet runs faster and smoother than my home WIFI!

The JetPack AC719L is very affordable, even for travelers on a tight budget. You can actually purchase the Verizon mobile hotspot for just $49, after rebate and activation of a contract (the full retail price is $199). If you already have a smartphone contract with Verizon, you can just add the JetPack to your current plan and share your other devices’ data plans. If you aren’t sure you want to get locked in to a data contract, you can purchase prepaid data ahead of time as well. The prices start at low rates of $30 per month for 4 GB. When you pick up the hotspot you have some time to decide whether you want to settle on a contract or a postpaid plan though – because it actually comes with 5 GB of free data!

When I received my new Verizon JetPack AC719L in the mail, I was a bit concerned – because I am not exactly “tech savvy.” I was in a hurry to get on the road, and thrilled when I opened the box and it came with simple instructions. I powered the hotspot on, and it’s full-color LCD screen lit up immediately and the easy-to-follow directions prompted from there. I was mobile in no time! If you are ready to go hotspot shopping, I highly recommend the Verizon JetPack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot – AC791L by NETGEAR. It’s a small price to pay to be able to access the internet whenever and wherever you please!
