Estonia Waives Quarantine For Visitors Who Have Had The COVID-19 Vaccine
Located in northeastern Europe, Estonia is a unique and fascinating country and should be your next destination.
When people truly start traveling again after lockdowns and quarantine, Estonia is a fascinating and unique destination. While previously Estonia imposed mandatory quarantine requirements, this is changing. The government has announced that quarantine requirements will soon be waived for visitors who can prove they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. However, visitors are still warned against unnecessary international travel.
Estonia To Change Its Requirements For International Travelers
Anyone planning on traveling to Estonia should be aware that the northeastern European country is now introducing new regulations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, a mandatory quarantine period was required for visitors to the country. However, the Estonian government has now announced that the mandatory quarantine requirements will be waived. Instead, Estonia will welcome international travelers who can prove they have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
Currently, three vaccines have been approved by the European Union – Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Moderna. However, Estonia will welcome travelers if their vaccination has been provided by one of nine agreed global vaccine suppliers. Under certain conditions, visitors who have recovered from the virus in the last six months can also claim exemption.
What Is Required?
Visitors to Estonia must provide vaccination records, including the manufacturer and batch numbers in Estonian, Russian or English. Travelers who have recovered from the COVID-19 virus in the previous six months will also be able to claim exemption from quarantine. In this case, they will need to supply a doctor’s certificate, listing a set of required details.
Currently, Estonia requires quarantine for all travelers from countries in the European Union, European Economic Area and the Schengen area with a high prevalence of COVID-19. The length of quarantine is 10 days. This includes countries where the infection rate in the past 14 days is above 150 people per 100,000 inhabitants.
Exceptions have been made for European countries with a low-risk of infection, listed on a regularly updated list. Anyone arriving from the European Union, European Economic Area and Schengen area who wishes to reduce the isolation period can undergo a PCR test within 72 hours prior to their arrival in Estonia. Alternatively, they can be tested on arrival, with a second test to be taken six days later. If both tests are negative, the 10-day isolation period can end earlier.

About Estonia As A Destination
Estonia is a completely unique destination. While it shares a similar history and geography with Latvia and Lithuania, the country is culturally distinct. The closest linguistic and ethnic country is Finland. However, 50 years of Soviet rule have separated the two countries. Also, while Estonia has been linked to Russia for the last 300 years, the two states have little in common.
Estonia has come out from under the Soviet blanket and is now a truly European destination. Visitors have fallen in love with charming Tallinn, with its beautiful, UNESCO-protected Old Town. While Tallinn is a captivating city, the surrounding, sparsely populated countryside and its beautiful forests and lakes are perfect for nature-lovers.
