New York Travel - Skip Quarantine If You Are Fully Vaccinated

Got an itch to visit the Big Apple or the state as a whole? Vaccinated domestic travelers can now visit New York without the mandatory quarantine.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been around for a year now, impacting travel all over the world. However, with vaccination programs underway, travel is now becoming a possibility again. The latest news is that New York will welcome domestic travelers who have had the vaccine, with no mandatory quarantine or COVID-19 testing.

New York Eases COVID-19 Restrictions

Whether you fancy a visit to the Big Apple, or other areas of the beautiful New York State, there is good news at last. Any domestic traveler who has been fully vaccinated can now visit the state without the need of COVID-19 testing or a mandatory quarantine. The only rule is that the visit must be within 90 days of the visitor’s second vaccine. This limitation is due to the lack of current data relating to vaccine-related immunity and how long it will last.

New York governor, Andrew N. Cuomo has said that if the 90 day period since the vaccination has elapsed, travelers would still need to undergo testing and quarantine. Currently, travelers must provide a negative COVID-19 viral test, taken within three days of travel to New York and undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine. The same ruling applies to domestic visitors who have yet to be fully vaccinated.

New Rules Do Not Apply To International Travelers

However, it must be stressed that the new ruling applies only to domestic travelers. The relaxation in restrictions does not apply to international travelers over the age of two years. Those travelers must provide a negative COVID-19 viral test, taken within three days of travel. They will also need to quarantine for 10 days, even if they have been vaccinated.

Restrictions Eased In The Arts And Entertainment Sector

Besides travel to New York, Cuomo also said that from April 2, arts, event and entertainment venues are allowed to reopen. For social distancing reasons, they will open at 33 percent capacity, with up to 100 persons indoors, or up to 200 people at outdoor venues.

However, should all attendees be able to give proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry, the capacity can be increased to 150 people indoors and up to 500 people in outdoor venues. From February 23, entertainment and sports events in major arenas and stadiums in New York were already allowed to open with limited spectators.

It was earlier reported that a number of high-profile celebrities will be taking part in a new arts recovery initiative in New York. Known as the NY PopsUp festival, the events will see hundreds of free pop-up comedy and theatrical performances, concerts and recitals in venues across New York State.

Other Protocols Are Still In Place

Even with social distancing in place, a strict adherence to all applicable Department of Health guidance is required in New York. This includes wearing masks, limited capacity, testing requirements and properly assigned socially-distanced seating.
