Pyramids of Giza Visitors Complex New And Improved – Egyptian Tourist At Its Best

Pyramids of Giza Visitors Complex New And Improved - Egyptian Tourist At Its BestOne of the oldest sites in the world is going modern with a new visitor complex and all the best amenities.

The Pyramids of Giza have been standing for some 4,500 years and are a major draw on a visit to Cairo, Egypt. This wonder of the ancient world is undergoing change, however, as tourism authorities build a new modern complex called 9 Pyramids Lounge.

Please note: Egypt reopened its borders to international visitors in July in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, not all countries are able to visit right now. Before making any reservations, check with your local travel advisory website.

Pyramids of Giza and the 9 Pyramids Lounge

The Pyramids of Giza are the biggest attraction in Cairo, and in fact, the whole of Egypt. Thousands of visitors have been here and gazed on the 4,500-year-old structures. However, up until now, facilities for visitors have been somewhat lacking. This is about to change.

Cairo will be opening the 9 Pyramids Lounge later this month and it will include a café, restaurant and lounge, all with close-up views of the pyramids. The lounge will be located on the southern end of the complex and will be the closest place for refreshments to the pyramids. After heading out into the desert to visit the site, visitors can enjoy a rest, a refreshing drink or a full meal before heading back to their hotel.

More amenities to come

The 9 Pyramids Lounge is only the beginning and is the first part of a wider redevelopment scheme for the popular site. Other plans include a new visitors’ center, with full information about the pyramids. Besides this, there will be the added benefit of a cinema, photo booths, food trucks and even free Wi-Fi to bring the ancient pyramids firmly into the present.

Tickets will be on sale through an app. Also, getting to the pyramids couldn’t be easier as a hop-on-hop-off electric bus route will be set up to travel around the area, dropping visitors off at designated stops.

The current animal handlers who offer rides on camels and horses have given visitors problems in the past, including aggressive tactics to attract people to choose their animals. The animal handlers will still be available for those who want the old-fashioned way of visiting the pyramids. However, according to a presentation given in March, the good news is that they are to be trained to “better deal with visitors.”

The redevelopment of the site is being handled by Orascom Pyramids Entertainment, an investment group in Egypt. CEO Ashraf Halim said in a statement, “The Pyramids represent a powerful symbol for the future of Egypt, connecting our rich legacy to our exciting future.”

Besides the new complex, Egyptian tourist officials are anticipating a surge in visitors to the nearby Grand Egyptian Museum, which opens in 2021. The opening was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. The museum was funded by the traveling Tutankhamun exhibition, which has been viewed by millions of people in London, Los Angeles, Paris and other cities around the world. With the addition of the new 9 Pyramids Lounge and other planned projects, Egypt is now firmly placed in the 21st century for tourism.
