Disney Cruises to Antarctica and Galapagos Islands – New Exotic Travel Excitement

Disney Cruises to Antarctica and Galapagos Islands - New Exotic Travel ExcitementDisney Cruises is planning its first cruises to Antarctica later this year, plus the Galapagos Islands in 2022, both with chartered vessels.

Exciting news for cruise and Disney fans! Disney is planning its first cruises to the White Continent of Antarctica, starting later this year, using a chartered vessel. The company also announced its plans for first cruises to the Galapagos Islands in 2022, also using a chartered vessel.

New Cruises Offered By Disney

The new cruises are being offered by Adventures by Disney and will mark the first-ever expedition cruises offered by The Mouse. Up until now, the company has only offered traditional cruises through Disney Cruise Line.

Expedition cruising is another kettle of fish altogether and is a specialized type of cruising, heading to remote, hard-to-reach destinations using small, hardy chartered vessels, carrying their own landing craft.

Adventures by Disney is a separate division of the company and is not part of its normal cruise line. The touring arm is mainly known for upscale, family-friendly land tours. However, it has offered cruises before on the rivers of Europe.

Cruising To Antarctica and The Galapagos Islands

The new Antarctica cruises will be on a vessel operated by a France-based upscale cruise line, Ponant, that specializes in expedition cruising. Meanwhile, the Galapagos Island cruises will be on a locally based charter vessel, Galapagos Legend.

On all the expedition cruises, Disney has planned family friendly activities, curated by their travel experts. Guests will be taken on landings to see wildlife by Disney-trained guides and naturalists. They will also enjoy onboard discussions about animal conservation, photography, wildlife and more.

Initially, Disney will offer two Antarctica voyages and both will run for 11 nights. The expedition cruises will include an oversight stay in Buenos Aires, Argentina prior to a flight to Ushuaia, a harbor town at the southern tip of Argentina. Here guests will board the Ponant vessel – either on Le Lyrial or Le Boreal. Both vessels are identical and can hold up to 264 passengers.

Prior to boarding, passengers will get to spend two days touring the area around Ushuaia, which is part of beautiful Patagonia. This will include a trip to Tierra del Fuego National Park, as well as a journey on the world’s southernmost railway.

The plan in Antarctica includes several days of landing and water exploration on rigid inflatable boats carried by the Ponant ships. Passengers will also have access to premium kayaking excursions. For those who want to explore Buenos Aires there is the chance of an added three-night, pre-tour guided stay in the city at an additional charge.

Who can enjoy the Antarctica cruises?

As with many Adventures by Disney tours, the new Antarctica cruise is mainly aimed at families with older children – they are not suitable for little ones. Disney recommends that children should be at least 12 years of age. According to details on the company’s website, children under 10 years of age will not be able to book due to “the duration of the trip, potential for extreme weather or sea conditions and the amount of physical activity involved.” This is mainly due to the two-day crossing of the notoriously rough Drake Passage while traveling to Antarctica from Ushuaia.

Fares start at $12,800 for adults and $11,500 for children.

Galapagos Island Trips

The Galapagos cruises are wonderful for animal lovers and focus on the wildlife of the Ecuador controlled islands, made famous by Charles Darwin. Passengers are likely to see iconic Galapagos species such as albatross, blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, marine iguanas, Galapagos penguins and giant tortoises. Guests will have the opportunity to kayak, snorkel and hike on these trips.

Initially, Adventures by Disney is offering five cruises with three different Galapagos itineraries in 2022. Fares will start at $6,300 for adults and $5,600 for children.

Take a cruise with a difference this year or next year for a true adventure! Readers can find out more about these expedition cruises on the company’s official website.
