Meanwhile, just to the north is the central jungle region of Chanchamayo, a birdwatcher’s paradise, with crystal clear rivers flowing through. While this area is accessible by road, it can be a hair-raising experience tackling the winding tarred roads in the area.

A true adventure in Iquitos

Heading to the city of Iquitos is challenging, as it is accessible only by riverboat or plane from the outside world. Here, the rarely visited, massive Reserva Nacional Pacaya Samiria teems with wildlife. However, bear in mind that this haven can only be visited on a 3- to 4-day boat trip through the rainforest.
