Norwegian Cruise Lines has good news for solo travelers as it is set to introduce almost 1,000 dedicated solo staterooms across its fleet. As more solo travelers head out into the world they are often forced to pay a surcharge for normal double occupancy rooms. With the increase in new solo staterooms, a cruise will be much more affordable.

Norwegian Cruise Lines adds more dedicated staterooms

Travel trends have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic, with home workers becoming digital nomads traveling the world to work wherever they please. However, another trend that is getting more popular is solo travel, where people travel alone with no family or friends.

The only problem with solo travel is that often travelers have to pay a surcharge on what is normally a double room. Norwegian Cruise Lines has heard their call and is making changes in order to welcome more solo passengers to their cruises.

On October 3, 2023, Norwegian Cruise Line announced that it would be adding almost 1,000 dedicated solo staterooms across its 19-ship fleet. It has introduced three new solo stateroom categories, namely Solo Inside, Solo Oceanview and Solo Balcony, for its future sailings from January 2, 2024.

While no fixed pricing has been announced, pricing and availability is dependent on the cruise destination and demand. However, the company says solo passengers can expect to pay less than a traditional double occupancy room.

Norwegian Cruise Line and ‘diverse offerings’

Announcing the news, David J. Herrera, President of Norwegian Cruise Line said:

We strive to provide our guests with diverse offerings to create their dream vacation. Since we first launched our solo staterooms in 2010 with Norwegian Epic, they have been quite popular with single travelers.

We are continuously listening to our guests to deliver the experience they want. After realizing the growing demand of individuals looking to travel on their own, we have now expanded single occupancy staterooms across our fleet.

As reported by Forbes, passengers who stay in the new solo stateroom categories will have access to the key card entry to the Studio Lounge. Available on select cruise ships, the lounge features a dedicated space to relax, as well as a bar equipped with wine and beer and a variety of snacks.

Meanwhile, as well as their own lounge, they will have access to activities for single cruisers to mix and mingle. Moreover, with more solo stateroom categories available across nine ships to the full 19-ship fleet, solo passengers will have more opportunities. In fact, they will have access to popular destinations which in the past have not offered the opportunity. These destinations include Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

According to Norwegian, its announcement comes in response to the recent surge in the popularity of solo travel throughout the tourism industry. The cruise line added that there is a growing number of people choosing to travel the world solo, rather than in traditional groups of partners, family, or friends.
