Viking’s New Treasures of the Rhine Cruise Makes it the First Cruise Line to Operate Year-Round in Europe

Viking made history when it became the first cruise line to sail year-round on Europe’s magnificent rivers. The Treasures of the Rhine itinerary makes it easier for guests to visit historic landmarks and explore Europe’s rich culture during wintertime when there is less crowding.

Viking’s Treasures of the Rhine river voyage sets sail this winter debuting in December 2023, making Viking the first cruise line to sail Europe’s rivers year-round.

Viking’s Treasures of the Rhine Itinerary

Torstein Hagen is the Chairman of Viking and he stated “The Middle Rhine is one of our most popular destinations—with constantly changing views of hilltop castles, historic towns and terraced vineyards along the steep valley sides, it is a region that will always be best explored by the river.”

“Many of our guests have sailed the Rhine during other seasons, so we are pleased to offer a new option for those who may be interested experiencing Europe during a quieter time of year.”

Viking is Having a Historic Year

Guests will have a 10-day itinerary in which to enjoy the new Treasures of the Rhine cruise. The timeline allows guests to discover the picturesque landscape and splendid cultures of the Middle Rhine, a UNESCO Site. Along the way guests will see grand cathedrals, turreted fortresses, medieval towns, and of course, stunning scenery.

Additionally, guests on the 10-day Treasures of the Rhine itinerary will witness beautiful terraced vineyards dating back to the Romans, and have the opportunity to sample the region’s world-class red and white wines.

Winter is an ideal time to visit the charming region as it offers Viking’s guests a less crowded experience, meaning easier access to both landmarks and the chance to savor the culinary traditions of Alsace while exploring Amsterdam, Basel and Cologne.
