Viking’s Newest Mekong River Ship Debuts in 2025, Doubling Viking’s Presence in Southeast Asia

Today Viking announced the addition of a second 80-guest vessel to its Southeast Asia river fleet. The new ship, the Viking Tonle, is built specifically for the Mekong River, and joins its sister ship, the Viking Saigon, which debuted last year.

The Viking Tonle will sail Viking’s popular 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary between Kampong Cham, Cambodia and Mỹ Tho, Vietnam.

The impressive vessel is under construction and is scheduled to debut in October 2025. In order to meet strong demand for Mekong River voyages, the company has added sailing dates in 2025 and its entire 2026 season is available now for booking.

The Viking Tonle

The new Viking Tonle was specifically designed to navigate the Mekong River. The three-deck ship carries 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms. All staterooms have hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with either a Veranda or French Balcony.

Guests on the Viking Tonle also enjoy a Spa & Fitness Center, Pool and open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck, with the ship featuring the sleek Scandinavian esthetic that Viking is known for.

Magnificent Mekong Itinerary

Guests on the unique 15-day journey explore the cultural treasures of Vietnam and Cambodia with 16 guided tours.

In between hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), guests enjoy an eight-day Mekong River voyage during which time guests may explore the Old Quarter of Hanoi and attend a performance by Apsara dancers, and taste the evocative cuisine featured at lively markets and local restaurants. Additionally, they can explore the Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Along the way guests will visit the ancient jungle ruins of Ta Prohm, and view the sights of Phnom Penh by cyclo rickshaw. While on the river voyage portion of the journey, guests encounter silk towns, fishing villages, monasteries, and floating markets.
