Viking’s River Voyages Offer Delightful and Authentic Christmas Market Celebrations
Viking is celebrating its Christmas Market voyages for the 2023 river season. The lineup consists of seven itineraries, including two new tours, showcasing the famous and festive Christmas Markets of Europe.
Guests who set sail aboard Viking’s award-winning Longship fleet will celebrate an Old World Christmas on sailings throughout the season. Each itinerary features illuminated Christmas Markets, regional holiday specialties, and handmade gifts.
Viking is Celebrating Christmas Market Voyages
Guests traveling on Viking’s Longships will hear unique musical performances, participate in tree trimming events, and view cooking demonstrations. With departure dates running from late November through December, the Christmas Market itineraries explore several vibrant cities and small towns across Austria, Germany, France, Hungary, and beyond.
Two New Christmas Market Voyages
Viking offers two new Christmas itineraries: Christmas on the Rhine & Moselle and Christmas on the Main & Moselle. The first tour is a 12-day cruise tour that allows guests to peer into stalls stuffed with delicious regional food as well as handcrafted gifts at the Christmas markets of Trier, Koblenz and Mannheim. In additional guests can admire the colorful seasonal displays in Paris.
Guests on board the Christmas on the Main & Moselle cruise will find themselves immersed in the centuries old holiday traditions that enrich French, German and Czech towns. There are Christmas markets in charming Heidelberg and Cochem, delicious yuletide dishes in sample in Paris, and plenty of castles and cathedrals decked out with festive displays.
Viking’s Established Christmas Market Itineraries
Viking also has several established holiday itineraries including the 8-day Christmas on the Rhine voyage. Guests will find themselves transported to storybook villages, where they can taste traditional yuletide treats plus peruse stalls filled with handcrafted ornaments.
Guests also have the opportunity to view the twinkling lights of Cologne as well as the joyful atmosphere of the Rhine Valley.
Viking’s Christmas on the Seine voyage is an 8-day adventure through Paris, including France’s twinkling “City of Light.” Guests will experience snow-covered landscapes in Normandy, complete with scenic fairy-tale villages. Onboard activities include sampling regional specialties, treats, and more.
Viking’s voyage Christmas on the Danube allows guests to stroll through medieval towns and picturesque villages along the “Blue Danube.” Here guests can stroll through the stalls at Budapest’s Christmas market, and delight in the festivities in Vienna as they shop for beautiful handmade decorations plus take in the fairy-tale village of Regensburg.
The Danube Christmas Delights voyage takes guests through some of the most entrancing countries in Europe where guests will have the chance to view cultural capitals and fairy-tale villages, savor Austro-Hungarian cuisine, admire the Wachau Valley’s beauty, and participate in European holiday traditions.
Finally, Christmas Along the Elbe is Vikings 10-day cruise tour. On this voyage guests will take part in time-honored European holiday traditions. The itinerary takes guests to Berlin where they can buy handmade porcelain in Meissen. Guests can also learn more about Prague’s Jewish history while strolling through it famed Christmas markets.
