Set-Jetting: Saltburn Fans Flock To Drayton House Upsetting Owner

While the Amazon Studios movie, Saltburn, wasn’t critically acclaimed, it certainly has plenty of fans. Since a video was shared on TikTok, taking viewers to Drayton House, where much of the movie was filmed, this has led to fans flocking to the mansion in droves. However, the current owner of the mansion is not impressed and wishes he had never agreed to the movie being filmed there.

Critics might not have thought much of the movie, Saltburn, but the movie has plenty of fans. Much of the movie was filmed at Drayton House, a beautiful, 700-year-old mansion, set in sprawling, beautiful grounds. After a TikToker, dubbed @ be_better_known, released a video, revealing the mansion in all its glory, fans were thrilled. That video soon went viral, leading to many fans of the movie flocking to Drayton House, much to the annoyance of its current owner.

The privately owned mansion has over 100 rooms and nestles in Northamptonshire, England. However, for most of the seven centuries since it was built, the mansion had a quiet presence, known mostly to locals, or experts who love viewing beautiful homes owned by England’s upper classes.

This changed since the premiere of the new movie Saltburn in November. While the movie was panned by critics, fans don’t care and the home is the subject of many memes and jokes on social media.

Saltburn mansion revealed on TikTok

Besides the fact that fans loved the movie, thanks to Rhian Williams, dubbed @be_better_known on Tiktok, shared directions. It turns out Williams lives close by, and posted a TikTok video revealing detailed directions to the mansion on New Year’s Day.

Since that time, the TikTok video has attracted more than 5.5 million views. Moreover, it was so popular, Rhian posted more follow-up videos about the mansion, including a visit to the local pub.

In a phone interview with The New York Times, Williams explained, “I haven’t got very many followers on TikTok,” adding, “I didn’t predict it.”

About Drayton House and Saltburn

In the movie, Saltburn, the mansion is the home of the Catton family, where Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) spends the summer. Moreover, some of the most memorable scenes from the movie take place inside the manor and on its sprawling, well-manicured grounds.

According to Vanity Fair last summer, the owner of the mansion allowed the filmmakers to use the property. However, the condition was that filmmakers would not be allowed to reveal the mansion’s whereabouts or its owner. Despite this, in August, shortly before the movie’s premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, Tatler magazine identified the house based on a careful viewing of the film’s trailer.

Drayton House is a Grade I building, protected due to its historical nature, and has been privately owned by the Sackville family for hundreds of years. While the home’s ownership changed over the centuries through inheritance, its current owner is Charles Stopford Sackville, who inherited the mansion from his father.

However, despite the fact that he allowed filming to be carried out in the mansion, its current owner is unhappy with the attention it is getting from the movie’s fans. Speaking to The Daily Mail, Sackville said:

Since the TikTok video was shared, some fans have tried to get closer, even though the mansion is visible from a public footpath. According to Williams, they have been seen climbing fences and more to try to get close to the home.

While Williams said she didn’t see any trespassers during her visits, since then, many Saltburn fans have shared their own TikTok videos, often posing in front of the gate.

Moreover, after the TikTok video went viral, this has led to a steady increase in visitors to the local pub, the Snooty Fox. While usually, early January is quiet in the town, this year the weekends see many fans booking rooms out, often two weeks in advance.
