While the train service is best known for its London to Paris route, on February 10, 2025 another surefire hit will be a direct train between London and Amsterdam. The route was originally suspended when the UK left the EU during Brexit and due to border control issues. However, fans of rail travel will be able to get from A to B that much easier.

Meanwhile, when the new route launches it will have a capacity of 450 passengers, meaning it won’t be overcrowded. However, in the spring of 2025, that capacity will increase to 650 passengers.

As with all train travel these days, it is a more environmentally friendly alternative to flying. Meanwhile, passengers don’t have to fear baggage allowances and they won’t have to wait around the airport to finally fly. Moreover, the train makes it convenient to vacation in two top European cities in one go.

So far, the cost of the journey has yet to be announced. However, checking out a return standard class rail ticket from London St. Pancras to Amsterdam Central Station in early March quotes the cheapest option at $203 per person.

For those travelers who don’t mind cold weather and the odd rain, winter is a great time to visit both London and Amsterdam. For one thing, crowd levels are much lower in both during winter and hotel rates and airfares are much cheaper. In fact, February is the cheapest month to fly from the US to London.

However, it isn’t just the cost that makes winter travel to both London and Amsterdam a great idea. While the days are shorter and the skies often gray, this is the ideal time to explore art galleries and museums in both cities.

While flying may be faster, riding the rails is a great place for people-watching and making friends in both cities. Moreover, trains in Europe have wider and more comfortable seats and offer more legroom.

Meanwhile, for convenience, both the London St. Pancras and the Amsterdam Central stations are centrally located. This is much better than having to hurry to the airport during rush hour and checking in hours ahead of the flight.
