Viking Takes Delivery of its Newest River Ship, The Viking Gyda Will Sail Portugal’s Douro River
Viking announced the delivery of its newest river ship, the Viking Gyda, which will set sail exclusively on Portugal’s Douro River. The ceremony for the Viking Gyda was held at the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castello, Portugal.

The Viking Gyda
The Viking Gyda was built specifically for the Douro River and guests onboard will enjoy the company’s popular 10-day Portugal’s River of Gold itinerary. The Viking Gyda displays all of the splendid Scandinavian design features that the company is known for and hosts 106 guests in 53 staterooms.
The Viking Gyda is a sister ship to the Viking Helgrim, the Viking Hemming, the Viking Osfrid and the Viking Torgil. All in all, Viking has five vessels navigating the magnificent Douro River.

The delivery of its newest river ship, the Viking Gyda, marks the latest milestone in Viking’s continued growth story. The Viking Gyda is specially designed to transit Portugal’s Douro River and the beautiful ship stunned onlookers during the delivery ceremony in in Viana do Castello, Portugal.
As it expands its fleet, Viking remains committed to well-defined, long-term growth plans as part of a strategy toward maintaining its leadership position in experiential travel.
Viking’s committed orderbook shows that the company expects to take delivery of 26 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 additional ocean ships by 2031.
When the orders are complete, Viking will have 112 river ships sailing in 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships navigating the world in 2031, further cementing Viking’s place as a leader in destination-focused travel.
