Disney Confirms the Return Of The Festival Of The Lion King Show In May 2021

Disney Confirms the Return Of The Festival Of The Lion King Show In May 2021According to World Disney President Jeff Vahle, the live “Lion King” show will be returning at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Mid-May. It is confirmed that it will feature revised performances due to the ongoing pandemic.

Vahle shared the good news on his Instagram account, alongside pictures and videos from inside the Harambe Theatre.

Festival of the Lion King

In the early parts of this year, Disney released a statement saying that the live “Lion King” is expected to return soon in the summer as a modified version made to fit into the coronavirus health guidelines. Vahle revealed the name of the modified show as “A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King.”

“Disney’s Animal Kingdom Vice President Sarah Riles and I stopped in to welcome them recently, and hearing that wonderful, familiar music put a lump in my throat,” Vahle teased. “Thrilled to have these talented cast members back on our stage!”

He shared the news alongside pictures taken from the venue showing performers rehearsing, along with a short clip of the performers joyously waving at the viewers.

Adjustments to the show will affect its choreography, which is expected to change in order to provide good social distances between the performers, and audience seating. According to Vahle, the cast is already back and are rehearsing for the show’s May return.

The “Lion King” show, which is known for featuring music and characters inspired by the Disney animated film “The Lion King,” has been closed along with the Disney World parks in March 2020 as a result of the pandemic and its impending lockdowns.

The original version, which debuted along with the theme park in 1998, featured live singers, dancers, acrobats, aerialists, fire twirlers, giant puppets and best of all, music from Disney’s “The Lion King” movie.

It’s the latest show set to return to the parks as Disney continues to bring back its family fun festivals, games and entertaining attractions. Other popular shows like “Finding Nemo—The Musical” and “Beauty and the Beast—Live on Stage” are still currently closed.

Audience Reaction

The news was certainly a great welcome to fans of Disney shows and many wondered why they wouldn’t just bring back all the other shows, like Finding Nemo—The Musical, back since shows and venues are beginning to reopen all across the country.

Disney received a lot of love and “yes!!!” from people who just want to get right back to having some good old fun memories.
