Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa is a five-star hotel set in a beautiful, historic manor house on the border of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Nestling in a thousand-acre plot of land, the hotel has starred in a number of movies in the past. These include Four Weddings and a Funeral, Enigma, Eyes Wide Shut, Inspector Morse, Nicholas Nickleby, Bleak House and Vanity Fair.

The former Luton Hoo manor house offers 228 rooms, spread over five different buildings on the property. However, that’s not all, as the hotel also features golf courses, a spa and two restaurants. Bikes are available for hire for those keen on exploring the property, or the area surrounding the hotel. Meanwhile, on-site, guests can enjoy a swim in the nearby lake. Other activities include croquet lawns for guests to play and a clay pigeon shooting school for more adventurous souls.

Meanwhile, you will also be in good company, as Queen Elizabeth and the late Duke of Edinburgh have stayed here.

Among some of the best manor houses, Cliveden House was originally built in 1666. It was built by the second Duke of Buckingham for his mistress, causing a little scandal. The hotel is located an hour’s drive from London. Meanwhile, the house has a fascinating 350-year past, including scandalous affairs and wild parties. With its history, it makes an ideal property to house a Bridgerton or two.

The beautiful hotel is set in 376 acres of beautifully manicured National Trust grounds and is a privately owned five AA Red Star hotel. Cliveden features 27 rooms and two restaurants for the best in fine dining.

The history of the property on which The Grove Hotel stands goes back long before the property was built. In fact, archaeologists found artifacts dating to 3,000 BC here. The striking Georgian manor was formerly the home of the Earls of Clarendon, but these days, the interior of the hotel is modern.

Despite this, as with many British manor houses, there are many activities to transport guests to a bygone era. Here, guests can enjoy activities like clay pigeon shooting, archery, hawking, horseback riding and more during their stay.

4. Lime Wood Hotel, Hampshire

Lime Wood Hotel features the Hartnett Holder & Co Restaurant for the best in relaxed Italian dining. Meanwhile, guests can practice yoga on the roof at the Herb House Spa and gaze at the forest views from the sauna.

The property was built in 1866 and takes its name from a well-known resident, Lord Beaverbrook. His lordship was a politician, publisher and former Ministry of Aircraft Production during WW2.

The property was transformed, along with two other buildings in 2011 into the Beaverbrook Country House. Meanwhile, the restoration reflects the period when Lord Beaverbrook would have lived here. The hotel features artworks and sculptures, including one of a British single-seat fighter aircraft, the Spitfire. Moreover, the hotel features four restaurants, a spa, private cinema and an extensive activities program.

Admittedly, these gorgeous former British manor houses don’t come cheap. However, when on a tour of England, treat yourself to at least one night’s stay and feel like a Bridgerton.
