Natural Habitat Adventures recently deployed one of the safari industry’s first off-the-grid, solar-powered electric safari vehicles in Botswana. Nat Hab, as they are known for short is a leader in responsible nature-based adventure travel. While working in partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the organization plans to keep elevating the safari game drive experience, offering visitors an immersive and sustainable game drive.

The new electric safari vehicle, or ESV, is a converted Land Cruiser, changed from diesel to electric power. Meanwhile, the vehicle is charged by an off-grid solar array that captures the sun’s energy for sustainable safari drives. Moreover, the new ESV will operate at Nat Hab’s Gomoti Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. It is set to carry seven passengers to see the rich wildlife in the area.

Forbes quotes Ben Bressler, President of Natural Habitat Adventures as saying in a statement:

This two-year project has been long in the making but well worth the effort to move toward decarbonization and offer more ecologically conscious exploration of the Okavango Delta’s habitat. Not only does an ESV lessen our carbon footprint, it’s also much quieter, making it ideal for game viewing in the African bush.

At night, the ESV is connected to a solar-powered charging station to recharge its batteries with renewable energy. Meanwhile, the vehicle can travel more than 150 miles for hours during a game drive once powered for a few hours.

Since 1985, Natural Habitat Adventures has led the field in sustainable and conservation-focused adventure travel. Meanwhile, Nat Hab journeys, led by professional naturalist guides, reveal the most extraordinary nature destinations in the world.

With Nat Hab travelers can enjoy small-group Galapagos cruises and experience polar bear tours in Churchill. Moreover, the organization offers close encounters with Alaskan brown bears, intimate African safaris, as well as wolf quests in Yellowstone and more.

Meanwhile, Nat Hab is also the world’s first 100 percent carbon-neutral travel company. Since 2003, it is also a conservation travel partner with World Wildlife Fund. Moreover, it is the creator of the World’s First Zero Waste Adventure and offers around 100 eco-friendly adventures in nature.

With Natural Habitat Adventures, travelers can experience unique itineraries and demonstrate how conservation travel works with, and benefits, local communities. Moreover, the organization actively seeks ways to lower tourism’s impact on the world environment, while raising people’s appreciation of nature.

Speaking of their latest efforts, Bressler continued, saying:

We were eager to join the movement toward expanding off-the-grid, solar-powered game drives, which are currently quite rare, but we hope this important progress will spur wider implementation across the safari industry.

Demonstrating the performance and reliability of the vehicle coupled with the positive impacts of the enhanced game drive experience and creation of local jobs in solar arrays furthers our company mission of conservation through exploration.
