At any time of year, Amtrak’s California Zephyr is one of the most beautiful routes in America but wintertime is especially gorgeous. The train ride runs between Chicago and San Francisco, passing through Omaha, Denver and Salt Lake City, all dressed up for the snowy season.

The journey takes you through both the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with beautiful views across the snowy peaks along the way.

This particular train ride takes 12 hours and runs between Anchorage and Fairbanks. On the journey, travelers are treated to vistas of snowy forests and frozen rivers. Meanwhile, the train also stops at both Denali National Park and Talkeetna.
