Will You Travel To See The 2024 Total Solar Eclipse?
Traveling to see the 2024 total solar eclipse
Taking place on Monday, April 8, 2024, this will be the last total solar eclipse in North America until 2039. Meanwhile, it will sweep across the US from Texas to Maine with many people traveling or living in its path of totality.
While Texas will likely receive more than one million visitors to watch the solar eclipse, Indiana and Ohio are a close second with more than 500,000 each.
To be exact, the April total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States and Canada. Reportedly, it will begin over the South Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, depending on the weather, the first location in continental North America to experience the phenomenon is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 am PDT. After crossing the United States, the eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic Coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 pm NDT.
‘Most-viewed astronomical event in American history’
Michael Zeiler, co-founder of Great American Eclipse and expert eclipse cartographer, said in a statement:
It will likely be the most-viewed astronomical event in American history. When you combine the populations of Mexico, USA and Canada that live inside the path of totality, and add all of those who will travel on eclipse day, a total of 50 million North Americans witnessing totality is possible.
Sailing on the 2024 total solar eclipse cruise
Meanwhile, another option to experience the 2024 solar eclipse is onboard a cruise ship. According to Cruzley, several cruise lines are offering solar eclipse cruises as follows:
Discovery Princess (Departs April 3 from Los Angeles)
Regrettably, the “Mexican Riviera with Total Solar Eclipse” cruise on Discovery Princess is already sold out. The ship departs from Los Angeles with stops in Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan and will be in the prime spot for the event.
Holland America Koningsdam (Departs April 5 from San Diego)

The cruise line Holland America is offering a 22-day trip, departing from San Diego and visiting Mexico before sailing across the Pacific to tour the Hawaiian Islands before ending in Vancouver. Most importantly, the cruise will visit Cabo San Lucas on April 7 and Puerto Vallarta on April 9, putting it in the perfect place for the celestial event.
Holland America Volendam (Departs April 6 from San Diego)
Meanwhile, another Holland America cruise will offer a perfect view of the eclipse. The Volendam will take guests on a 15-day cruise from San Diego, heading down the Panama Canal and ending in Fort Lauderdale. Reportedly, the ship will be docked in Cabo San Lucas for the event.
Emerald Princess (Departs April 5 from Los Angeles)
If you can, make sure to experience the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
