Greece To Scrap Quarantine Requirements For Travelers From 30 Countries, Details HERE!
Gradually, the world is opening up again to travelers following more than a year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Greece is the latest country to announce it is dropping quarantine requirements for visitors from more than 30 countries, including the UK and the US. The only requirements are that travelers have been fully vaccinated against the virus, or can prove they have tested negative for COVID-19.
Greece Drops Quarantine Requirements With Conditions
Greece is preparing to reopen its tourism sector. A senior tourism ministry official told Reuters, “We will gradually lift the restrictions at the beginning of next week ahead of the opening on May 14.”
From April 19, visitors from across the European Union, as well as from the US, UK, Israel, United Arab Emirates and Serbia will no longer be required to quarantine on arrival in Greece. Travelers must, however, show proof that they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or present proof of a negative PCR test, taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel.
The tourism sector accounts for around a fifth of Greece’s economy, so welcoming visitors back is vital for the country. Greece has a population of 11 million, and Germany is its largest market for visitors, followed by the UK.
Current Regulations For Visitors to Greece
At present, all visitors arriving in Greece must present proof of a negative PCR test, and quarantine for seven days. The latest lockdown rules across Greece have been in place since November, when the country entered a second wave in the pandemic.
However, in March, tourism minister, Haris Theoharis, said that once vulnerable and elderly people had been vaccinated, the country would start vaccinating people working in the tourism sector, in an effort to welcome visitors back to Greece.
Meanwhile, visitors should note that it is mandatory to follow the local public health guidelines, even if they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have tested negative for the virus.
Greece as a destination
Whether visiting mainland Greece or its beautiful islands, the country has plenty to offer. Besides the gorgeous beaches, the country offers much in the way of historic architecture, including the fascinating monasteries of Meteora, perched on top of towering rocks, or the wonders of Athens, including the Parthenon and the Acropolis. Visitors can appreciate the culture of Greece, with its bold modern art and music, as well as a calendar full of holidays and festivals.
Lovers of the outdoors and nature are spoiled for choice in Greece with its beaches, countryside, volcanoes and Byzantine footpaths to follow. At the coast, they can watch for dolphins and sea turtles, go wreck diving or kitesurfing. Alternatively, travelers can hop on a yacht and sail between the islands on the blue Aegean Sea.
The country is a foodie’s delight with its choice of flavors, mixed with Italian and Turkish influences. The cuisine of Greece is prepared from local olive oil, herbs and feta cheese, along with freshly caught fish and seafood.
If you have been fully vaccinated, or can provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test, head to Greece and experience everything the country has to offer.
