Viking Cruises Welcoming Back Guests With Two New Voyages From Malta This Summer

Viking Cruises Welcoming Back Guests With Two New Voyages From Malta This SummerThis summer is looking rather promising for both the cruise industry and of course, cruise fans who have been longing for the high seas for the last several months now. In fact, there’s a new report that says luxury cruise line Viking Cruises is expanding their ‘Welcome Back’ collection with new Mediterranean voyages in the coming weeks for American tourists. In fact, two ships will call Malta their homeport beginning in July. Here’s what you need to know.

Viking announced this week that it will restart operations with new ocean voyages this summer. The news comes after the European Union hinted that it will welcome back Americans as soon as June 1st, as long as they are vaccinated. Under the new plan, which still needs approval from the bloc’s 27-member states, restrictions on vaccinated travelers could be lifted sooner rather than later, which a lot of people see as a welcome boost for European economies heavily dependent on the tourism economy.

Viking Bring Two Ships To Valetta

So, it should be no wonder that Viking is taking this opportunity to welcome back cruisers by bringing their two ships, Viking Venus and Viking Seas, to the Maltese capital city of Valetta. The cruise line plans on sailing two different 11-day roundtrip itineraries in the Mediterranean.

“We thank the government of Malta for its support and enthusiasm as we continue restarting operations,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “Malta is a fantastic destination, with ancient history, rich culture and a central location in the Mediterranean. We began calling in Malta in 2016 and look forward to welcoming guests back to some of the most historically significant and naturally beautiful areas of the Med—in both the Maltese archipelago, as well as along the Croatian coast, and around Greek islands this summer.”

Cruising Details

Now, as far as the cruising details are concerned, they certainly sound enticing. Travelers n the new Malta & Adriatic Jewels itinerary will overnight in Valletta and then sail to Montenegro and Croatia, calling in Kotor, Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Šibenik, before returning to the Maltese archipelago, with a stop in Gozo and finally back to Valletta. Viking Venus and Viking Sea will sail the itineraries between July and early October 2021.  Currently, these cruises are only available to American citizens.

Of course, this isn’t the only ‘Welcome Back’ cruise that the company is planning for this summer. The company announced back in April that it will continue restarting limited operations with a collection of sailings around Bermuda and Iceland as early as June of this year. What’s more, the ‘England’s Scenic Shores’ itinerary will also restart the same month, much to the delight of cruising fans from across the pond.

Fans should also keep in mind that the Viking Health & Safety Program has been implemented and developed in coordination with a team of scientific and medical advisors to come up with one of the most well-researched and comprehensive Covid-19 prevention and mitigation plans in the travel industry.
