Spain Gets Ready To Welcome Vaccinated Travelers In June

Spain Gets Ready To Welcome Vaccinated Travelers In JuneGood news in the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, as Spain gets ready to open its borders to international visitors. There will be no PCR tests or quarantine as international travelers, including from the US and Canada will be welcome to enter the country from June 7, 2021. All they have to do is prove that they have received a full coronavirus vaccination.

Spain returns to tourism

The announcement came from Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez on Friday. Sanchez confirmed that vaccinated travelers from around the world, including the US and Canada, will now be permitted to enter Spain without the necessity of quarantine restrictions.

In his statement, Sanchez said, “From June 7, all vaccinated people and their families will be welcome in our country, Spain, regardless of their country of origin.” He added that visitors must present a certificate showing they have received their full COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that Spain will allow visitors from 10 low-risk, non-EU countries to enter from May 24, without restrictions. The list includes Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the UK.

Digital Green Certificates

The news from Spain comes as the European Union on Thursday reached an agreement over the introduction of digital green certificates, to allow cross-border tourism within Europe. The certificate contains information to prove that the traveler has either been fully vaccinated against the virus, has tested negative for COVID-19 or has recovered from the virus.

According to Sanchez, the digital green certificate is great news for tourism as it eases travel across the EU bloc. He confirmed that the digital green certificate will be “Free, universal and simple” and will be active from July 1. On top of this, the EU is hoping to extend the digital green certificate to travelers from countries outside the bloc by this summer.

Second-most visited destination in the world

When the state of alarm was declared in Spain on March 25, 2020, the country’s borders were sealed and the country’s tourism sector – which accounts for around 12 percent of Spain’s GDP – came to a halt.

Spain is the second-most visited destination in the world after France and normally receives some 80 million international travelers each year.

While the pandemic does continue and the threat of the virus is still present, other restrictions do remain in place throughout the country, including social distancing and the necessity of masks. However, Spain is looking to the future and hopes to have 70 percent of the adult population vaccinated by the end of summer this year.

What does Spain have to offer?

Spain offers a world within one country, with the gorgeous beaches and waving palm trees of the Costa del Sol in the south. To the north, Galicia, Asturias and the Basque Country offer lush green landscapes and historic cities, while Catalunya offers the Alt Penedes wine region and the stunning multicultural city of Barcelona with its many wonders created by Antoni Gaudi. La Rioja is another famous, world-class wine destination to place on a traveler’s itinerary.

Meanwhile, the Valencian Community features beautiful beaches, great cities and charming towns. In the heart of the country is Spain’s capital, Madrid, a bustling city with shopping, dining, museums and art galleries to explore.

If you have been fully vaccinated, start making plans now to head to Spain!
