Really Wild Animals for Children: National Geographic 4 DVD Set - Review #HolidayGiftGuide

Children love animals. Isn’t that always the case? Doesn’t matter if they’re pets or they’re wild, kids love animals of all shapes, colors, and sizes – no prejudice, no preconceived notions, and no biases coming into play. So for Christmas, what could be a better gift for a young boy than the National Geographic Really Wild Animals 4 DVD volume set? This video set is mainly targeted towards children aged 4 – 10, and features an animated globe named Spin. Along with Spin, the videos take you around the world to teach the kids about all the wild animals, their behavior, their location and geography, and their habitats.

My nephew Jayden is 7 years old, and he absolutely adores wild animals. After buying this gift, we spent the entire evening watching the DVDs, and he really couldn’t get enough. The videos are not only educational and suitable for young children, but they manage to be entertaining, hold a kid’s attention, and teach good values – all the while being fascinating to watch for any adult that’s roped into sitting through all the viewings.

Really Wild Animals for Children: National Geographic 4 DVD Set - Review #HolidayGiftGuideThe set was amazing and vivid. It was detailed to show children the real nature of the world, but note that it could be a little intense for younger tots. But I promise, it will be the best $49.95 you’ve ever spent on the discounted 4 volume set. Perfect for holiday gifts that will last and be a year-round treat.

Plus, there are several other features on the DVDs, not just videos of wild animals. There are songs in the videos, which Jayden has memorized and now sings along to. The entire DVD collection also presents facts about the wild animals in a thoroughly entertaining and humorous method, which honestly surprised me. There was no indirect pandering to the children, and there was a lot of intelligence present in the way the facts were given out. Honestly, even though this gift is technically for young children, I would recommend it for anyone who wants to learn a little something about wild animals.

The songs will get stuck in your head and some of the material might be too twee, but by and large, it’s an impressive DVD set. Plus, it’s also great to take for long vacations or long road trips, considering that its use as a travel companion is second to none.

The four DVDs contained in the set include Swinging Safari, Dinosaurs and Other Creature Features, Totally Tropical Rain Forest, and Deep Sea Dive. The Swinging Safari focuses mainly on desert-rich lands like Africa, the Dinosaurs one is pretty self-explanatory, the Totally Tropical Rain Forest deals with [obviously] rain forests, and Deep Sea Dive takes you underwater. Not only will the DVDs teach kids about wild animals, but they’ll also learn plenty about our world’s biggest and most common habitats.

In the end, this really is the perfect Christmas gift for any young boy or girl who loves animals, especially wild animals. It might be a tad bit too mature for toddlers, but anyone between 4 and 10? No need to go shopping with them and try to figure out a gift – this is perfect, and you don’t need to leave the privacy of your home to order it.
