Tourist Meets Traveler's Tip For Beating Jet Lag

People often ask us how we beat Jet Lag traveling around so much.  I remember one of my first trips out of the country to India.  At the airport I went to the bathroom and I met a women who asked me what I was going to do to make sure I did not get knocked out by a bad case of jet lag.  I really had no answer and she volunteered her tip.  I have found it to be invaluable over the years.

She told me that when I got to Chennai,India to make sure no matter how tired I was after the long flight NOT go to bed once I hit my hotel.  She told me I had to wait until the local bedtime.  Of course I did not listen and when I hit my hotel I went to sleep immediately.  What happened was I was jet lagged for about two weeks.   I really regretted not listening the helpful lady.

The next time I traveled I flew for 23 hours to Australia.  I made sure to force myself to stay away even though I landed at 8AM in the morning and I went to bed at 9PM Australian time.  It was a miracle, the next day I woke up refreshed and did not suffer one minute of jet lag.

So our advice at The Travel Moms is no matter how tired you are DO NOT GO TO BED when you land in a country, stay up until the local  bed time and you will be glad you did.
