Vacation At Bay Of Fundy, New Brunswick & View The Hopewell Rocks “Awesome”

My husband and I wanted to take a weeklong vacation and we decided to spend it at the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick.  We stayed at the Fundy Highlands Chalet.  We were there the first week of June and the weather was outstanding.  Our chalet was a single bedroom suite with a living room, nice bathroom and fully equipped kitchen with a small table – perfect for a couple. The chalet, set on gorgeous forested grounds with meadows also had a private deck with views of the rugged coast of Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy.

Because the chalet was right in the Bay of Fundy National Park it abounded with wildlife.  We saw deer, rabbits, beaver and many species of birds.   My little puppy, Ginger, who we brought with us, spent most of her time with her nose on the ground smelling the different wildlife scents – no doubt that they were smelling her too!  The park has over 100 kilometres of hiking trails with streams and active beaver ponds.  The location of the chalet was ideal as it was only a short drive into the town of Fundy.   One of the great things about being so close to Fundy was that we could drive into town and eat the scrumptious seafood or buy it to take home, already cooked or fresh to cook.

On one of the days of our vacation we decided to visit the Hopewell Rocks.  The Hopewell Rocks are sometimes called the “Flowerpot Rocks” and that is because the rock formations look like large flowers pots.  The rocks are rock formations caused by tidal erosion and they stand 40-70 feet tall.  They are unique and awe inspiring.

We made sure to schedule our visit during low tide because we wanted to explore the beach and flowerpot rocks.  The entrance fee allows you to enter on two consecutive days so you can experience low tide and high tide if you wish.  The entrance fee was $9 for each of us.  To get down to the beach we had to walk down many steps.

Although there are a lot of stairs, it is well worth the trip down.  You get to walk on the ocean’s floor among the flowerpot-like formations.   We spent a lot of time investigating all the nooks and crannies of the ocean floor.

After viewing the rock formations and ocean floor you can leave the beach to take one of several trails.  Because we had taken our puppy with us we decided to explore one of the easier trails.  The walk was had interpretive panels and viewing decks along the trail which provided wildlife information and views of inland forests.  TRAVELERS TIP: There is a lot of walking so make sure to wear comfortable shoes! Also – pay attention to the warning signs and tide schedules lest you become trapped when the tide comes in. All the activities are safe and well-marked but you must be vigilant.
