Viking Cruises Wins Number 1 Ocean Cruise Line Award For 2018
For many cruising fans and enthusiasts, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. According to new reports, Viking Cruises has managed to top Travel + Leisure’s 2018 World’s Best Awards in the publication’s annual list of all the best airlines, hotels, and cruises in the travel industry. Viking was named the number one ocean cruise lines for ships carrying up to 2000 guests. What’s more, the company was also awarded the World’s Best River Cruise line title. Viking has been voted the number one cruise line since the publication’s first survey back in 2011.
According to Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking, he says in a statement, “We have been offering ocean cruises for three years, and for all three years we have been voted the world’s number one ocean cruise line. To receive such a positive reception so quickly and consistently is unprecedented and a great honor. From our beginning we have set out to do things differently. We focus on the destination, providing what we believe to be a better value than any other cruise line.”
The company’s chairman also said that Viking wouldn’t have done it without it’s guests and fans, who have helped in making the cruise line the quality company that it is today. Their feedback, travel experiences, and loyalty to Vikings has all helped make the cruise line stand out – and in front – from the rest.
Hagen added, “We want to thank our guests and the readers of Travel + Leisure for embracing the Viking way and for again bestowing upon us two awards in a single year.”
What makes Viking Cruises stand out from the rest of the pack is that not only do they have great itineraries, but the company truly cares about customer experience and satisfaction. Many guests have called their cruises with Viking a top drawer experience. In addition, the cruises are great for the tour group travelers or independent explorers who like to visit cities on their own.
The company has been creating memories of a lifetime since 1997 after purchasing four ships. In 2000, Viking expanded into the American market by establishing a new headquarters in Los Angeles. Through rapid expansion, the company has grown to be The World’s Leading River Cruise Line, with double-digit growth in recent years.

Viking introduced its first ocean ship with the christening of the 930-guest all-veranda Viking Star in 2015. The company then launched its second ocean ship, Viking Sea, which was joined in 2017 by sister ships Viking Sky and Viking Sun. The fleet welcomes Viking Orion in 2018 and Viking Jupiter in 2019, making Viking the largest small ship ocean cruise line.
This year Viking Orion will embark on journeys in the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Alaska, expanding the company’s routes and itineraries to all corners of the globe. In addition, four more yet-to-be-named ships are scheduled to launch by 2023.
