Yellowstone Fans Can Now Stay at Actual Ranch from the Show
Yellowstone fans can now stay at the actual ranch from the show and experience life much like the Duttons; John (Kevin Costner), Beth (Kelly Reilly), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and Jamie (Wes Bentley).
According to Travelwaits.com, the ranch, called Chief Joseph Ranch to honor the Nez Pierce Chief who journeyed through the property, is located in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. A historic landmark, the property is every bit as beautiful as it is portrayed in the popular Paramount Network series.
If you haven’t already fallen in love with the modern-day western, you might want to jump on that bandwagon and see what all the fuss is about.
Keep reading and we’ll tell you more about it.
The Real History Behind Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch
The Chief Joseph Ranch, or the Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch, as it’s referred to on the show, is a working ranch and family homestead, much as it is in the series. However, the ranch also has guest houses that it rents to the public. As fans would expect, the ranch is often taken over by the fictional Dutton family during filming.
The Chief Joseph Ranch is one with a history equally as rich as the backstory Yellowstone gave to it, which dates back clear to the 18th century when the land belonged to the Salish Tribe. Louis and Clarke discovered the land in 1805 when they followed an existing trail left by the Native American tribe.
The Nez Pierce often used the trail and would join forces with the Salish to deal with threats. It was during the Nez Pierce War of 1877 when Chief Joseph led his Nez Pierce tribe across the land as they fled the United States Calvary. By 1880, the 2500-acre property was settled and turned into what was originally called the Shelton Ranch.
Yellowstone Guest Houses for Rent
Since the land became a ranch, it has passed through more than a few hands but the cabin the Yellowstone series is known for is the real deal and was built in 1914 as were the guesthouses and dairy barns featured on the show. When Yellowstone isn’t being filmed the current ranch owners reside in the main lodge, the barns are used for dairy cattle, and as we mentioned earlier, the guest houses, which are luxurious ranch houses on their own, are rented out to the public.
Fans will recall the guesthouses as the one John Dutton’s son Lee Dutton (Dave Annable) lived in during season 1 as well as the house Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) moved into during season 2. Though the main lodge is unfortunately unavailable to rent, guests are free to tour the entire property.
