Disney Cruise Line Unveils Disney Treasure Mega-Ship

Disney Cruise Line has unveiled its new, Aladdin-inspired mega-ship Disney Treasure, the sixth ship in its impressive fleet. Meanwhile, news from the Bahamas relates to the new private island experience the cruise line is currently building, Lighthouse Point.

Disney Cruise Line unveils Disney Treasure

The announcement was made at the D23 Expo over the weekend that Disney’s newest cruise ship will bear the name Disney Treasure. However, cruising fans shouldn’t get too excited yet, as the new mega-ship will only start sailing in 2024.

The sixth cruise ship in the fleet has been designed with adventure in mind. The Triton-class cruise ship features characters from one of the entertainment company’s classic films, Aladdin. The story was partly inspired by the Middle Eastern folktale, One Thousand and One Nights, and depicts a street urchin, with his pet monkey and his love for a royal princess.

The characters of Aladdin and Jasmine are to be cast in gold and will stand in the Grand Hall of the three-deck-tall ship. In the statue, they are seated on their magic flying carpet, which, in the film whisks them over the desert sands of Agrabah.

According to Disney, the new ship will be filled with the “grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace.” Moreover, it will draw on “real-world influences from Asia and Africa and pay homage to the far-off land of Agrabah.” Readers can catch a glimpse of an artistic rendition of the Great Hall in the video included here:

New cruise destinations

Currently, new destinations are being added to some of Disney Cruise Line’s existing itineraries. In fact, for the first time, ports in New Zealand and Australia will be included from October 2023. Meanwhile, the 965-feet-long ship the Disney Wonder will be voyaging to the South Pacific for the first time in 2023. Moreover, that ship was inspired by the golden age of cruising. Among its new destinations, ports in Fiji and Samoa are being added to the itineraries.

According to Disney, the Disney Treasure is scheduled for delivery in 2024. It will follow the Disney Wish, which set sail in July this year and will be the second of three new ships planned through 2025. The Wish class ships are powered by liquefied natural gas and feature 1,254 guest staterooms.

New private island experience on Lighthouse Point in the Bahamas

Besides the new and exciting cruise ship, Disney Cruise Line is also creating a new private island experience called Lighthouse Point. According to the Disney Blog, this newest private island is currently under construction in the exotic and sunny Bahamas. The destination will be located in Eleuthera and, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Bahamas. Moreover, it will offer new hotels, beaches, swimming pools and more to offer passengers an intro to Bahamian culture.

Even better, the company says that Lighthouse Point will be powered 90 percent through solar energy. Meanwhile, besides being an exciting tourist destination, Lighthouse Point will also offer sustainable economic opportunities for locals in the Bahamas. The company is giving back to the destination their ships have been visiting since 1998.

Meanwhile, Lighthouse Point is located less than 125 miles from Castaway Cay, a Disney destination in the Abaco chain of the Bahamas.
