A new, 16-day sailing is set to take passengers from Indonesia to Australia. Meanwhile, along the way, there will be a special stop in the Timor Sea for the best view possible of a solar eclipse in 2023. Moreover, guests will visit exciting destinations like Komodo National Park in Indonesia and the Kimberley region of Australia. Meanwhile, experts will guide passengers through the various fun stops on the itinerary.

The solar eclipse cruise will take place on Ponant’s Le Lapérouse cruise ship from April 9 to April 24, 2023. According to Ponant’s website, the cruise ship has 92 staterooms and suites and accommodates 184 passengers.

Meanwhile, the cruise is set to depart from Bali and head to Komodo National Park where passengers can disembark and enjoy swimming, snorkeling and exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, the park is renowned for the famous Komodo dragon, a massive lizard not found anywhere else in the world.

Le Lapérouse will also make stops in Dili and Baucau in East Timor. The next stop on the itinerary is Wyndham in Western Australia and the Kimberley region, which boasts white sand beaches and mangrove forests. Among other activities, passengers will take Zodiac boats or tenders and head to the base of the 260-foot King George Twin Falls.

Next in line is to cruise to the perfect spot to watch the total solar eclipse, something Ponant cruises have done before. Meanwhile, ship programming will be led by C. Alex Young, associate director for science at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. He will be joined by Craig Benjamin, an Australian-American historian, in the lead-up to the main event. Moreover, the program is led in alliance with Smithsonian Journeys.

Sawhney added that passengers will be able to attend talks in the ship’s theater about the science behind the event, adding:

And then they will get to experience it out on deck in the morning till midday.

The Ponant cruise will offer a number of days exploring Collier Bay and the Lacepede Islands before passengers disembark in the town of Broome in Western Australia.

According to Ponant’s website, available staterooms and suites will start at $45,340 based on double occupancy, including port tax. Additionally, there are two accessible rooms on board for passengers with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the price also includes transfers from the airport to the ship and back. Also included are shore excursions and activities at each port of call. Moreover, the price also covers all meals and drinks, with the exception of some specialty options.

Right now, flights from New York to Bali on April 8 are priced from $832.
