As recently reported, one of the latest, unexpected travel trends for 2023 is “Set-Jetting.” This isn’t a typo; we don’t mean Jet-Setting. In fact, the new trend involves flying to filming locations of some of our favorite TV shows and movies. Anyone that has watched shows like Game of Thrones, or movies like James Bond and more has noted the beautiful filming locations.

This has led to a new travel trend, where people visit and experience those same locations. In fact, according to Expedia, two-thirds of travelers around the world have considered Set-Jetting. Meanwhile, 39 percent of travelers have actually booked a trip to a location after seeing it in their favorite show or movie.

In the past, Jet-Setting was a major travel trend – flying off to luxurious locations and enjoying everything they have to offer. However, the latest unexpected travel trend is “Set-Jetting.” Basically, this means flying off to experience filming locations of favorite movies and TV shows around the world. Here are five of the top Set-Jetting locations for travelers in 2023.

1. Petra, Jordan (Indiana Jones)

Anyone who loved Harrison Ford in the classic Indiana Jones adventure movie, the Last Crusade, will recognize Petra in Jordan as the filming set. Traveling to Petra will let people feel like they are on their own quest for the Holy Grail.

This fascinating, prehistoric city, carved into the pink sandstone cliffs of Jordan is truly an architectural marvel. In fact, Petra was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, while Harrison Ford was able to enter the buildings, you aren’t allowed to. Still, just admiring the fascinating façade is a treat enough.

Moreover, the nearby Wadi Rum village is a worthy visit, as it was another filming location for Indiana Jones, as well as sci-fi movies like Dune and Star Wars.

2. Set-Jetting to Taormina, Sicily, Italy (The White Lotus)

Season 2 of the HBO black comedy series, The White Lotus, was filmed at the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Italy. This instantly drew travelers’ interest to the series’ primary filming location. In fact, you don’t just have to look at this location – you can actually stay there.

However, besides Set-Jetting, the southern Italian island of Sicily has many more amazing places to visit, inspired by the TV show. These include the town of Taormina itself, as well as Noto and Cefalu.

3. Hobbiton, New Zealand (The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit)

Fans of the work of J. R. R. Tolkien have no doubt watched the movie adaptations of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. While filming is over, certain film sets for the movies remain today, waiting to be visited. In fact, you can go Set-Jetting to the Shire and the village of Hobbiton, located just under two hours from Auckland in New Zealand. In fact, you can enjoy a guided tour of the quaint Hobbit houses, and even have a drink at the Green Dragon Inn.
