Longest US domestic flight resumes

Not everyone would likely be happy to sit on a plane for an extended period of time. However, Singapore Airlines recently announced its flight from Singapore to Newark had changed its destination to New York City, an incredible 9,536.5 miles. This is considered the longest international flight in the world.

Hawaiian Airlines Has Announced The Resumption Of Its Almost 10-Hour Flight

Now Hawaiian Airlines has announced the resumption of its almost 10-hour flight, making this the longest domestic flight in the US. The flights will resume between Honolulu and Boston on December 18 this year.

Previously, the 5,095-mile flight operated five times each week as the longest domestic flight in the US. However, when it returns, there will be a twice-weekly schedule for its nonstop flights between Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and the Boston Logan International Airport. This is likely due to the damper placed on travel by the coronavirus pandemic.

On the same date, Hawaiian Airlines will also resume flights between Honolulu and the John F. Kennedy International Airport, as well as the balance of its 13-city mainland network.

Boston to Hawaii

The flight between Honolulu and Boston was first introduced in April 2019. This was due to it being the largest market in the US without direct flights to Hawaii at the time. The flight was aimed at supporting business travelers, as both states are involved in the seafood industry.

The time from Honolulu to Boston takes 10 hours, but the return flight takes even longer, at an amazing 11.5 hours.

COVID-19 and traveling to Hawaii

When the coronavirus pandemic first hit worldwide in March, any traveller heading to Hawaii had to undergo a 14-day quarantine period. Travelers will be pleased to note that instead of quarantine, Hawaii has introduced a pre-travel COVID-19 testing program. All a traveller has to do now is provide proof with a negative, state-approved test taken within 72 hours of departing.

Hawaiian Airlines has recently launched a convenient drive-through testing program at select US mainland airports.

Brent Overbeek, senior vice president of revenue management and network planning at Hawaiian Airlines recently made a statement about the resumption of the nonstop flights. He said, “We’re pleased with increased demand for travel to Hawaii, and we’re excited to once again offer our East Coast guests the convenience of our nonstop flights as we welcome them to the islands with new health and safety measures.”
