Universal Orlando Resort Makes Major Changes to COVID Protocols

Universal Orlando Resort Makes Major Changes to COVID ProtocolsTravel news reveals that theme parks are easing restrictions in regard to COVID-protocols. After Walt Disney World Resort announced that they are longer performing temperature checks at its theme parks and resorts, Universal Orlando Resort issued a similar statement.

Now Universal Orlando Team Members have confirmed that temperature check stations in parking garages and hotels will be removed at Universal Orlando Resort effective May 6, 2021.

Universal Orlando Resort Removes Temperature Checks

The move comes after the Orange County Health Department declared temperature checks for businesses unnecessary and a waste of resources. Last month Orange County Department of Health official Dr. Raul Pino stated that temperature checks are not necessary, with the Department of Health not recommending temperature checks as they squander resources on a method that doesn’t automatically prevent the spread of COVID-19.

While temperature checks were required to enter Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and other businesses in the county it was noted that a COVID-19 carrier does not always have a fever, and those with a fever do not necessarily have COVID-19.

As a result, Orange County announced it would phase out physical distancing and mask requirements. An immediate change from six feet to three feet of physical distancing was enacted.

Universal Orlando Resort Reduces Physical Distancing to 3 Feet

In addition to the removal of temperature checks Universal is also decreasing its physical distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet.

Both temperature checks and physical distancing were a part of COVID-19 protocol when the resort reopened last June.

Universal Orlando’s website has this statement about the changes: “We’re excited to enhance your Universal experience with the latest safety updates from local health and government officials. There are no more temperature checks upon entry. And Social Distancing between travel parties is now reduced to three feet (1 meter). Still, most of our original safety protocols remain unchanged—from wearing face coverings across our Resort to our ongoing dedication to cleanliness and sanitization.”

After the Orange County Department of Health issued a statement on April 30th that temperature checks were no longer needed for businesses, Walt Disney World Resort was the first announce an implementation of the changes, removing temperature checks beginning for cast members on May 8th and for guests on May 16th.

Temperature checks were implemented at Walt Disney World Resort theme parks upon their re-openings in July 2020, and at Disney Springs upon its reopening in May 2020.
