Visit Centennial Park: In 1987 this was the location for the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition. It was set up to be a huge park for this even that brought thousands of people. It is now the home of the famous replica of the Parthenon as well as beautiful ponds and a great area for events, concerts and a kids playground. While you do have a fee to enter the Parthenon and it’s museum, you can take pictures outside and wander around the park and the beautiful ponds, walking paths and areas where free concerts are often set up year round. There is a great kids playground just a few hundred feet from the Parthenon entrance that is free and great for the kids to play.

Tennessee Agricultural Museum: This is a great free museum that houses great artifacts around the farming industry. Both educational and interesting for anyone to learn a bit more about how your food goes from farm to table, it is a great place to take kids and adults who have interest in gardening or farming.

National Garden Railway Society Model Train Display: This is typically open only on Saturday or Sunday, but it is a great place for train fans to visit. Model trains are amazing replicas of those that have and do still run across country. Great visit for those kids who are into trains.

Tennessee Military Museum: Free entrance to this museum houses some amazing artifacts from the early days of our American military in the state and nationwide. Great displays are educational, and occasional traveling exhibits or documentaries are available (sometimes small fee for extras).

Capital Mall State Park: This beautiful park has tons of great exhibits both permanent and temporary. Not only is it a great place to spend time, you can potentially visit the state Capital grounds, learn more about the area and experience one of the most beautiful places in the city.

Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery: This gallery is free and open to the public year round. With permanent and rotating exhibits you can see something different every time you visit. It is a great addition to your travel in the area.
