Where Can You Experience Some Of The Best Christmas Lights in Europe?Europe is renowned for its quaint Christmas markets and for putting on a great display, but these are also known for some of the best Christmas lights in the EU bloc.

Christmas lights in Malaga, Spain

The capital of the Costa del Sol in southern Spain always puts on a great display each year. Head to Calle Marqués de Larios (known as Calle Larios for short), where the impressive display varies each year. The lights are normally switched on in November with an appropriate light and music event featuring Malaga’s Philharmonic Orchestra and playing favorites like Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas and Wham’s Last Christmas along with more traditional Spanish holiday tunes.  In recent years, Antonio Banderas – Spanish actor, Hollywood star and son of Malaga – has had the honor of switching on the lights.

Apart from Calle Larios, the city strings up 2 million LED bulbs across the city and this year, got extra festive with 24 giant Christmas chandeliers and an Enchanted Garden. Christmas Lights in Reims, France

The French city of Reims also knows how to put on a spectacular Christmas light display. One must-see event is the breathtaking show held around the Cathedral of Reims and included in the video below. The Christmas spirit continues around the city with many beautiful light displays.

Christmas Lights in Salerno, Italy

Heading to Italy, the city of Salerno is one of the most illuminated cities in Europe with artistic light displays throughout the streets. Each year, new artistic creations are added to the incredible Christmas display.

Christmas Lights in Vienna, Austria

Vienna is famed for its many Christmas markets throughout the beautiful city, but it is also renowned for its spectacular Christmas lights. As always with Vienna, the display is chic and totally elegant. The city’s Rathaus (city hall) is always stunning, but at Christmas, you get to enjoy the annual Vienna Christmas World, where the lights shine as you ice skate beneath the building or enjoy gluhwein and tasty food.

A short walk away, the Christmas Village on Maria-Theresien-Platz is a stunning market, while the Museum Quarter is tastefully lit up with a quaint market selling gluhwein and beautiful decor items. Enjoy a virtual stroll through Vienna’s Christmas lights in the video included here:

Christmas Lights in Madrid, Spain

Returning to Spain, the country’s capital also puts on a spectacular display for the holidays, with elegant light creations all over the city. However, Madrid also offers four large Christmas markets to tempt you, namely the Mercado de Diseño (design market), the Feria Dulces de Navidad (fair of sweets), the Mercadillo del Gato and the popular Plaza Mayor Christmas Market.
