Beautiful Vienna Welcomes International Travelers Again

Beautiful Vienna Welcomes International Travelers AgainAnyone wishing to visit beautiful Vienna in Austria is now welcome, with three different methods of being allowed to enter. Finally, Vienna’s hotels, attractions and restaurants have reopened and entry protocols have been eased and it is now safe to enjoy a visit to the city again. What can you expect on a visit to Vienna?

Vienna reopens to international visitors

The COVID-19 pandemic has been around for more than a year now, but finally travel is looking up. This includes Austria as a whole and Vienna in particular, a city longing to welcome visitors again. International travelers are finally allowed, including Americans.

From June 24, US citizens and residents will be allowed to enter Austria in three different ways. They can produce proof of a full COVID-19 vaccination, a negative PCR test, or proof of recovery from the virus.

Vienna has finally been able to reopen its hotels, restaurants, cinemas, concert halls, theaters and opera houses to the international public. The city has also been able to reopen its famous Vienna Prater, with its Ferris wheel. Once again, the city is a metropolis of art and culture, attracting visitors from all over the world.

Entry regulations have been eased

Health and safety protocols have been eased for visitors who do not come from high-risk areas or regions with virus mutations. What is now necessary in order to visit the attractions of this historic and cultural city?

As with entry into Austria, prerequisites for entering hotels, venues and cultural events are either a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination (valid for 22 days from the first jab) or proof of recovery from the virus. PCR tests are valid for 72 hours, antigen tests for 48 hours, and self-tests are valid for 24 hours.

Visiting restaurants and hotels in Vienna

Up to 10 patrons (plus children) can sit together at an outdoor table at a restaurant, while four (plus children) can sit together inside. Each patron must be vaccinated, have a negative test or have recovered from COVID-19. Anyone who doesn’t have a negative test with them may exceptionally take one in the restaurant itself, which will then be valid for the duration of their visit.

On arrival at the restaurant, patrons must register and must wear an FFP2 mask when away from their assigned table. The restaurants’ closing time in Vienna is now 10 pm.

Hotels in Vienna have also reopened to leisure travelers and again, tested, vaccinated and recovered guests are able to stay overnight in the city. Each hotel is taking all necessary precautions to protect its guests and staff members.

Entertainment and culture in Vienna

Currently, cinemas, concert halls, opera houses, theaters and other cultural institutions have a maximum capacity of 50 percent. This means that in theaters, one seat must stay free between each group of patrons, for social distancing reasons. FFP2 masks are compulsory while in the building and only people who have been vaccinated, tested or recovered can enter.

In museums and art galleries, FFP2 masks are mandatory and six feet of physical distancing between each person is required.

According to Vienna’s official website, the city can now hold congresses, fairs and meetings again, with a maximum of 1,500 people indoors and a maximum of 3,000 people outdoors. Seating will be assigned only to those who have tested negative, been vaccinated or have recovered.

Spas and wellness centers, indoor sports facilities such as fitness centers and outdoor swimming pools require six feet of social distancing between visitors. Again, only those who have been vaccinated, tested or recovered can enter.

Take a summer trip to Vienna in Austria – take in all the striking architecture, sights, cultural attractions and more. Dine in the excellent restaurants and generally enjoy this wonderful destination again.
